To: Clergy, Religious and Laity of the Archdiocese of New Orleans
Dear brothers and sisters in Christ:
I pray that your Lenten journey has been a time of drawing closer to Christ and responding to His invitation to conversion through increased prayer, fasting, almsgiving and works of mercy.
A worthy tradition of Lent is to partake in the Sacrament of Penance. God’s love for us is always bountiful and He desires us to turn away from sin, be forgiven and be faithful to the Gospel. Lent is the perfect time for us to stand before our merciful God and asking for His forgiveness through Confession.
A beautiful tradition takes place here in our Archdiocese. A priest will be available in every church in the Archdiocese of New Orleans on the following Wednesdays during Lent from 5:00 PM til 6:30 PM: March 11, March 17, and March 25. Whether we have been to Confession recently, or perhaps it has been many years, the heart of Jesus is open and He invites you to know and accept His mercy.
Know of my prayers, love and gratitude for you, and please pray for me as we journey through this Lent to the joys of Easter!
With renewed best wishes, I remain
Yours in Christ, Most Reverend James F. Checchio, JCD, MBA Archbishop of New Orleans
The Sacrament of Reconciliation will be available in every Catholic Churches in the Archdiocese of New Orleans from 5 pm to 6:30 pm on March 11, 18, and 25, 2026.
